bietet Besuchern und Nachbarn Raum für vielfältige Aktivitäten.
The construction of the new infrastructure, to be financed by the City of Berlin, will have at its centre a new city square containing a pier, sculpture garden, and waterside and craneway promenade.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the city square took place on September 9, 2006. The construction is to be carried out by the district department of Treptow-Köpenick, based upon the designs of the landscape architect Ulrike Böhm. The outcome will be a revitalized urban space, subdivided into different experimental locations along the Spree. As a result, the Schöneweide neighbourhood will acquire a new and highly attractive artistic hub situated in a prime aquatic area.
- Reconstruction of the craneway building to an entrance promenade for the city square and Schauhallen. The new base will create a link between Schauhallen and the city square
- A large lawn leading gently over a bank, directly towards the waterfront- The sculpture garden is interwoven with the lawn
- A lot of seating accommodation will be offered for the waterside strollers and visitors to the city square.
- Construction of the Kaisersteg, a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists
- A trail along the river banks, coming from the city centre and leading along the Spree.
