Co-operation with the city
The realisation of the Schauhallen concept takes place in close co-operation with the City of Berlin, especially the district of Treptow-Köpenick, which serves as the foundation of the 2004 public contract between Schauhallen and Berlin.

The City supports the infrastructural connection of Schauhallen through a public private partnership and the exemplary co-operation of the district’s mayor, Dr. Klaus Ulbricht, and the city councillor, Dr. Schmitz.

Approximately 5.5 million euro will be invested in the development of the urban surroundings, such as a city square, the so-called “Kaisersteg”, a pier for public navigation, as well as a marina.

Moreover, the Schauhallen project is supported by the mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, and Senatsbaudirektor, Dr. Hans Stimmann. It is being referred to as the “most important cultural project of the next years” (Statement Stimmann, 10. May 2005).

“With its combination of museums, private collections and art galleries under one roof, Schauhallen can be ranked as a “motor of the art scene” even on a worldwide scale, making Berlin a central place for culture in the centre of Europe” (Wowereit, 14. October 2005).

In co-operation with the senate administration for the city council, an international architecture competition was held and the renown firm Kahlfeldt won.
